Meeting with U.S. Department of Homeland Security Undersecretary Foresman

On Friday March 17, Representatives of the RJRC Task Force joined other local business leaders in a briefing of DHS Under-Secretary for Preparedness George Foresman, in Pittsburgh for a conference on response to pandemics. The briefing included a discussion of the RJRC Task Force effort to date. The RJRC Task Force discussion went very well; Sec. Foresman was aware of the RJRC Task Force initiative and interested in additional information. On Tuesday March 21, representatives of the RJRC Task Force traveled to Washington, D.C. and were joined by representatives of our Congressional Delegation and the Air Force BRAC Implementation Office for a briefing before senior staff members of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The in-depth briefing was originally scheduled for DHS Under-Secretary for Preparedness George Foresman, who received a summary briefing while in Pittsburgh for a conference last week (see last week’s Update for a report on that session). Unfortunately, Sec. Foresman was called to the White House on Tuesday. The RJRC Task Force briefing was presented to Tracy Henke, Assistant Secretary for the Office of Grants and Training, along with a representative of the DHS medical team. The RJRC Task Force presentation was an important step in building a strong relationship with DHS – a key partner in the RJRC process.
