Prior to joining the Allegheny Conference, Mike was founder and CEO of Langley Group, a business development and economic development consulting practice in Florida. Langley Group was engaged by Enterprise Florida – Florida’s public-private partnership for trade and economic development – as an advisor for technology development and entrepreneurial growth in the state, and was selected by Workforce Florida to manage the development of entrepreneurial training and education programs for the Disney/SBA National Entrepreneurial Center, located in Orlando.
Mike also served as president/chief executive officer of The Broward Alliance, Broward County’s official public/private partnership for economic development. During his tenure, the Alliance became known as one of the country’s most progressive economic development organizations. While there, he was one of the founders and helped lead the emergence of the InternetCoast, south Florida’s technology leadership organization. In addition, Mike served as chairman of the International Business Council of South Florida, another successful regional leadership initiative.
The majority of his corporate career was spent in the high technology sector working in management positions for a number of Westinghouse/CBS subsidiaries, including serving as president/chief executive officer of Audio Intelligence Devices, Inc., which was considered a world leader in wireless surveillance technology. A 1975 graduate of the Naval Academy with a bachelor’s degree in analytical management and a 1981 graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School with a master’s degree in information systems, he served as a Navy pilot with more than 5,000 hours of flight time in surveillance and intelligence missions. Langley also served as a technology analyst on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations. He joined the Naval Reserves in 1985 and retired as a Captain in 2000 aboard the USS Cole. During that time, he was commanding officer for Naval Air Station Norfolk’s (Va.) Reserve Command, and also served as executive officer of the Naval Doctrine Command staff. He is a native of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Mike is married to Julie Ann, and the couple has two adult children – Lauren, a computer graphic designer; and Brent, an information technology professional, who is married to Wendy and has a son, Evan. | |||
